Children of Violence

Children of Violence is a series of five semi-autobiographical novels by Nobel Prize-winning author Doris Lessing, tracing the life of Martha Quest from her childhood in Southern Africa through World War II and into a post-nuclear Britain. The quintet comprises Martha Quest (1952), A Proper Marriage (1954), A Ripple from the Storm (1958), Landlocked (1965), and The Four-Gated City (1969). The series has been praised as a landmark exploration of colonialism, politics, gender, and personal identity in the 20th century.
